Setting Up A Small Business
Are you thinking about setting up a small business online so you can work from home and avoid a hectic commute to work each day? Maybe you want to save on expensive childcare costs, or be in control of your own workload, or simply work in the comfort of your own home? But maybe you mostly just want to earn a solid income and be paid well for your efforts so that you never have to worry about paying the bills ever again?
Sounds fantastic doesn’t it? Setting Up a Small Business online!
Just imagine working from home, making more money than you’ve ever dared dream of and being your own boss.
The problem is . . . most people think that setting up a small business online isn’t easy and they don’t know where to start.
To be honest, the truth is that it isn’t as tricky as you might think.
Would you agree that you’re concerned or worried a bit about doing something for the first time? It’s human to do so. But can you remember taking your first step? Or the first day you started school? Or the first time you learned to ride a bike or drive a car? Did you fret a bit beforehand, and then go on to prove to yourself that such concern was misplaced? It’s the same with setting up a small business online. It’s completely natural to think it through first.
So what topics do you need to tackle?
Investment
You don’t need a large amount to invest in a small online business based from home. You need a laptop, a website, a domain name and web hosting. You’ll also need to pay for traffic and for some training – but there are cheap and expensive alternatives for both. If you’ve already got a laptop with a broadband connection then your investment could be as little as $25 per month – the price of a few coffees, or a few packets of cigarettes, or a few bus fares.
What to Sell
If you don’t have any big ideas of what products or services to offer for sale, then follow your passion – just make sure that you can sell someone else’s product (preferably digitally delivered information for a commission) that solves a problem for people.
How do you know if people have problems that need solving? Use the Google’s AdWords Keyword Tool as it shows you which keywords (keyword phrases) people are typing into Google looking for solutions, plus it shows the competition associated with each keyword.
Website
The best software platform for online business is WordPress.org.
Why? Because, it’s free, it’s easy to use (almost as easy as Microsoft Word – it just needs a small amount of training) and it’s loved by Google J

Social Media
I can’t stress enough the necessity to embrace Facebook and Twitter. It’s the simplest and freeist way to build relationships and get your name/product/service out there – so is crucial for any small business start-up.
Outsource
You don’t have to have all the skills yourself and do all the setting up yourself. If there’s something you can’t do or can’t do quickly enough, then outsource it. Have a look on fiverr.com, odesk.com, or elance.com. The solution for any problem can be found there.
Troubleshooting
This is the biggest tip!
If you need answers for any problem whatsoever, then search Google or Youtube for them. You’ll find heaps of tips posted by those who have trodden the same path before you. People are willing to share their knowledge and advice because helping others makes them feel good!
You don’t need to be a rocket scientist or hold an MBA when setting up a small business online! You just need a small amount of capital, an ounce of self-belief and a big determination to succeed.
Think about this:
If you had an online business that made commissions selling other people’s products or services, you could make a healthy living online and NEVER have to worry about where the next pay cheque is coming from ever again.
